Ten years after the Beside collection went out of production, Refin is launching a re-edition of the product–called Upside–to pay homage to the design genius of Massimiliano Adami, who marked a revolution in the tradition of ceramic mosaics with that project. Upside is an evolved re-elaboration of the Beside collection: the Refin laboratory re-interpreted the project by applying new production technologies, translating the most representative elements of the original design into an expanded, ultra-decorative range with a remarkable expressive impact.
The result is a re-edition that retains the designer’s stylistic signature and exploits the full force of his idea: an evolved and creative update of Adami’s mosaic that takes its geometry and makes it potentially infinite, applying it to larger formats, thus revolutionizing its perception.
Thus the revived geometries and colors of an iconic collection that left its mark on the world of ceramic tile mosaics was brought back to life.
The extraordinarily versatile palette satisfies every design requirement: the eight colors spanning the entire color spectrum were selected with the utmost sensitivity to design and trends in order to create lively atmospheres, offer refined contrasts and suggest cosy experiences.
The two shades of light and dark blue – Sky and Blue – are intense and at the same time relaxing; Green is a reminder of nature that conveys feelings of serenity; Yellow is an energetic mustard yellow with slight hints of earthy nuances; Ruby red envelops with its warm and sophisticated touch; Pink is a delicate powder pink, refined and contemporary; Black and White have tone-on-tone lines that make it an elegant and sophisticated option.
The evolution of technology has made it possible to produce the decorative pattern in the form of a continuous lattice with larger formats, 30×60 and 60×120, which add strength to the geometry of the decoration and allow the tiles to be placed side by side with an uninterrupted laying of the lattice, to design continuous scenographies that catalyze the eye.
The 30×30 Mosaic, the only format of the original design, is composed of randomly matched 5×5 tiles in the grid. With the new Brick 6.3×29 it is also possible to move the grid through staggered laying, generating a particularly dynamic look to animate walls with a touch of originality.
An explosion of color, graphics and brilliance: Upside expresses all the potential of porcelain stoneware by combining an experimental attitude, a creative language and technical expertise made in Refin.
