When William Randolph Hearst built his estate on the coast of central California, he hired architect Julia Morgan to construct the elaborate Hearst Castle, which integrates Spanish Colonial, Mission and Moorish Revival styles. Tilevera’s Hearst Castle collection of tiles takes inspiration from the residence’s elaborate interiors and incorporates a variety of materials including stone, wood and glass. The line’s decorative stone tiles (pictured left) are hand painted or carved, while the stone flooring is offered in six historic shapes. The glass collection includes smalti, an opaque hand crafted glass, gold mosaic glass and mercury glass with a vintage patina. The wood tiles (pictured right), created by decorative painter Jacqueline Moore, feature layers of glazes, gold and silver leaf, oil paints, washes, and antiquing methods, which are sealed with a durable protective coat.
