For Arianne Bellizaire, owner and principal designer of Baton Rouge-based Arianne Bellizaire Interiors, luxury it’s a mindset. In a recent conversation on the KBB “From the Tap” podcast, she made the case for design that centers on the client, not the cost.
Intentional Living Over Expensive Living
Bellizaire compares the design process to a stay at a fine hotel. The difference isn’t the rate; it’s the concierge who already knows your coffee order. That same attention belongs in residential work, where the goal is a concierge-level experience tailored to how a client lives.
One Luxury Anchor Per Room
You don’t need to splurge on everything; you can highlight one moment that anchors the space. On a recent project, Bellizaire’s clients returned from Egypt inspired, then found salvaged Moroccan doors at a local warehouse, perfectly scaled for their new wet bar. The kitchen itself stayed timeless and functional, and the doors carried the story.
Where to Splurge, Where to Save
Bellizaire works the budget backward, starting with what matters most: getting the footprint right first.
- Invest in layout, lighting and tile or hard surfaces.
- Save on cabinetry finishes, hardware and paint color. These swap out easily and carry less long-term risk.
For moderate-budget spaces, she leans on her full skill set as an interior designer. Rugs, Roman shades and thoughtful styling fill in where concessions were made, delivering a complete, layered look.
Stock & Semi-Custom, Reconsidered
The old assumption that everything must be custom no longer holds. At KBIS, Bellizaire noted a wider range of door styles, finishes and color options, including brands partnering with paint companies on curated palettes.
