Biophilic Design: Colors From the Natural World

Published: July 13, 2025

It’s possible to connect your client’s home with nature through biophilic design, an approach that incorporates natural elements into interiors for relaxing, inspiring environments.

Your client’s surface choice can reflect their affinity for the natural world while setting a serene tone in their home. Below are four ways to unearth a personal sanctuary with biophilic-inspired shades.

1. Go Green for the Ultimate Natural Retreat

From deeply saturated rainforest tones to soft grass and moss hues, green has become a go-to in home design. Associated with lush landscapes, green brings a sense of renewal and grounded energy to any space.

Add a pop of color to your client’s beverage station with olive green, complemented by bamboo materials to curate moments of natural peace. Or, use this refined shade for floor-to-ceiling cabinets paired with walnut paneling for a calming color palette that brings the outdoors in year-round.

2. Escape to the Desert with Terracotta

Terracotta tones, reminiscent of Mediterranean design or southwestern American landscapes, cultivate a warm and inviting atmosphere.

For a boho kitchen design, combine terracotta cabinets with rattan stools and potted plants. This shade also elegantly contrasts with dark green surfaces, creating a sophisticated blend of earthy tones. Alternatively, pair terracotta with a textured white backsplash and minimalist white countertops for an energizing kitchen that exudes desert chic.

3. Warm Up Minimalist Spaces with Sandy Beige

If your client is drawn to clean designs but doesn’t want to sacrifice warmth, sandy beige tones add a comforting touch while maintaining a minimalist style.

Off-white kitchen cabinets complement bright white recessed cabinetry, providing an airy two-toned combination that offers a fresh take on neutral design. Or, opt for sandy brown cabinets paired with reflective white countertops and a sleek marble backsplash to create the perfect canvas for showcasing artwork.

4. Tie In Texture for a Woodsy Atmosphere

From rich walnut to rift white oak, wooden textures instantly uplift your client’s home with a natural ambiance and eye-catching dimension. Engineered wood surface options, such as textured HPL surfaces and wood fiber laminate surfaces, make it easy to bring the outdoors in.

Pair walnut wall cladding and cabinet doors with white, taupe and blue shades for an organic palette that artfully balances a mix of soothing colors and natural textures. For a contemporary coastal feel, combine the tranquil textures of light oak cabinets with modern matte black fixtures.

Whether your client is drawn to earthy shades or wooden textures, embrace biophilic design to transform their home into an oasis.
