Serip’s new Calathea Collection is inspired by a botanical species native to the tropical rainforests. This set of artistic sculptures by the Portuguese company is an ode to new beginnings and a tribute to nature’s resilience and beauty.
Bearing the name of Calathea and drawing inspiration from a plant that inhabits the tropical rainforests, the new line positions nature in the heart of existence and elects the Calathea plant family as the embodiment of strength, of grace, of fluid movement and of luxury. At a tipping point regarding environmental awareness and concern, Calathea encapsulates the idea of a turning of the page (or the leaf), of a new beginning.
The Calatheas are also known as “prayer plants”, due to the delicate movement performed by their leaves, a dance that resembles the joining of the human hands in the act of mediation. They are, therefore, the perfect metaphor for the reflection and introspection needed to transform the way we look at the world and at nature, as elements that must be protected and preserved, respected, and experienced.
Allying illumination devices with artistic sculptures composed mostly of recycled materials, Serip creates the perfect harmony between usefulness and beauty. The Calathea collection presents unpaired items, each one different from the others, a characteristic that reflects the very uniqueness of every one of nature’s creations.
Using cutting-edge 3D technology, Serip has been able to digitalize every trait of the leaves of the Calathea, translating its distinctive features into glass replicas that illuminate as well as decorate and embellish not only the sculpture, but also the room it is in.
