Graham & Brown Paper Games Collection

For its 75th anniversary, British wallpaper brand Graham & Brown has teamed up with Sacha Walckhoff, interior designer and creative director for Christian Lacroix Maison, to unveil Paper Games, a playful and colorful capsule wallpaper collection

As a practice that was very in vogue in the 18th century, the art of papercutting was used to create portraits and landscapes in a Chinese silhouette style. In Great Britain, the art of papercutting inspired the famous ‘Jasperware’ decors of the porcelain-maker Wedgwood. While in Switzerland during the 19th century, mountain folk would work during the long winter evenings to create landscapes of the Pays-d’Enhaut using cut-out black paper.  Walckhoff and Graham & Brown have transposed these techniques in order to produce graphic designs of flowers and trees that are both joyful and contemporary.

This capsule collection, both refreshing and original, offers a rich chromatic choice as it stretches from saffron yellow to dusk blue through a powdery pink and navy-blue sky. For graphic patterns, there is a combinational palette of black and white, confining the designer’s stylistic approach, as well as touches of purple, anthracite and vanilla.

Designs include Hide & Seek, Magical Forest, Party Land and Secret Mountain.

Inspired by the true beauty of nature, Walckhoff uses silhouettes of unusual plant life in Hide & Seek where florals peek from behind vertical stripes. In Magical Forest, ever-growing branches stretch across this intricate design, while relishing in the company of vibrant colors or deep, moody hues. Party Land is situated in the shade of a singular maze of unknown plants, holding either rich jewel tones, such as navy, berry-purple and mustard, or soft, dream-like pastels including pinks, yellows and blues. Secret Mountain fuses sequences of abstract patterns inspired by Polynesian tattoos.
