Florim CarbonZero- Surfaces

The CarbonZero- initiative is a tangible effort to combat overexploitation of natural resources.

Florim has introduced CarbonZero-, a project featuring Climate Positive surfaces that neutralize the CO2 emissions generated by their production process and life cycle, going beyond zero impact. These products have a positive impact on the environment because Florim adds 10% by purchasing certified carbon credits from renewable energy projects in developing countries.

The CarbonZero- initiative is a tangible effort to combat overexploitation of natural resources. It is part of a carefully considered production strategy that has three long-established driving forces behind it — beauty, innovation and sustainability. Florim has calculated the environmental impact of its products throughout their life cycles. In order to limit emissions from its activities, it has reduced its use of natural resources and invested in making its production process up to 100% sustainable in terms of water, electricity and waste recovery.

Starting from this year, all new Florim collections are part of the CarbonZero- initiative.

For more than 60 years, Florim has been producing ceramic surfaces in an eco-friendly and people-friendly way. Its dedication to these issues is underlined by the significant investments that have been transparently described since 2008 in its Sustainability Report, which faithfully bears witness to its virtuous, sustainable approach to production.

Florim espouses a business model that is good for the planet, and it has held B Corp certification since 2020. The company continues to make investments in order to reduce the impact of its activities. Florim has added its commitment to pursuing the goal of net zero emissions to its articles of association, and since 2012, it has avoided 129,388 tonnes of CO2 emissions. Until technological innovation means they can be reduced to zero, it has decided to voluntarily offset the emissions of all new collections.

Pictured is the Biotech Collection, which embraces the principles of sustainable architecture. Devised for architecture projects, it contains a selection of industrial stones with large formats. They have been produced using innovative technologies that take things to an even higher level than the customary production efficiency found in Florim’s Industry 4.0 factories, with high standards of technical and aesthetic performance.

The Biotech selection contains five surfaces that were inspired by stone. Each of them was designed with a specific body mix that gives a feeling of consistency between the body and surface, as well as the specific color:

  • Crema Stone is inspired by Pietra d’Orcia, a type of limestone that is quarried in central Italy. With its rich, warm and light tones, it is ideal for filling spaces with a sense of softness.
  • Stonewood is Florim’s take on silk Georgette or white wood, a type of marble with a distinctive shape reminiscent of wood grain. The soft tones are complemented by a streaked, linear effect.
  • Lapis Greige calls to mind a particular type of Turkish limestone.
  • Soap Stone recreates the appearance of the metamorphic rock of the same name, which has light, delicate veins against a dark background.
  • Serizzo Stone looks like a type of stone known as serizzo, which is part of the granite family found in the Southern Alps.
