Lauren Rottet, FAIA, FIIDA, internationally celebrated architect, designer and founding principal/president and owner of Rottet Studio, captured three Design Awards for Modern Furniture + Lighting, claiming two for her Rottet Collection – the Dark & Stormy Table and the Walking Bench – along with a win for her Fascio Collection Sconces for Visual Comfort & Co. The competition represented submissions from a total of 24 countries and was juried by an esteemed roster of international design professionals. “I am honored to achieve this international recognition for my product designs and showcase them at a global level,” said Rottet. “I thank the jury and congratulate my fellow awardees.”
Organized by Global Design News in tandem with The Chicago Athenaeum, the original awards program was launched in 1949 by the Museum of Modern Art. ‘The Prize Designs for Modern Furniture” were conceived to encourage the best of contemporary design while highlighting exemplary examples in the furniture industry, and thereby stimulating manufacturing of mass-produced products. Seven decades later, this award is now experiencing a global relaunch.
The Dark and Stormy Table (above) won Best Table of the Year. It integrates clear and colored resins resulting in a minimalist form, while capturing and casting light in the surrounding space.
The Walking Bench (above), which garnered Best Seating of Year, highlights angled legs and marble construction, and was originally designed as indoor/outdoor seating for the entry foyer at the Kips Bay Show House in Dallas.
The Fascio Collection of Sconces by Lauren Rottet for Visual Comfort & Co. was named Best Wall Lighting of the Year. This collection, manufactured from highly refined, cut crystal, comprises faceted glass tubes and rods that are bound and include wall sconces, pendant lights and chandeliers.
The collection can be viewed at the Rottet Collection Showroom, 29 West 30th St., 6th floor in New York City.
