Mockett hosts an Annual Design Competition, now in its 34th year, that gives designers an opportunity to see their product idea come to life. The latest winning entries come from design students Hannah Eckersley and Michael Nelson, both currently enrolled in the industrial design program at Appalachian State University. This is particularly exciting since this is the third year in a row that students from Appalachian State have submitted winning entries.
Eckersley’s design is an intriguing Art Deco-inspired coat hook that takes an ordinary stamped triangle plate and layers it by bending out additional interior triangles that serve as multi-level hooks. Users can hang a shirt or jacket on the bottom hook and an additional jacket, hat or scarf on the larger hook above.
Nelson’s design is a floor wire manager that runs under a desk against the back of the desk or against the wall or baseboard to shield and conceal wires safely out of harm’s way and doubles as a footrest. This inspired take on ordinary wire stay channels adds a caddy for power strips and allows additional cabling to run underneath.
