Columbia Forest Products Recognized for Innovative Design

Published: June 26, 2012

The International Wood Products Association (IWPA) has recognized Columbia Forest Products for its (CFP) PureBond formaldehyde-free technology, which is used in manufacturing the company’s hardwood plywood panels.

CFP won in the 2012 competition’s Innovative Design category. Its PureBond formaldehyde-free technology uses soy protein for decorative hardwood plywood assembly instead of traditional urea formaldehyde-based resins. As a result, the technology allows CFP to produce no-added formaldehyde decorative plywood panels made from domestic and imported materials.

The other award winners for 2012 were Interwood Forest Products, winner of the Aesthetic Design award for incorporating multiple exotic species in the world’s tallest building, and UCS Forest Group, recipient of the Environmental Excellence award for distribution of Red Grandis, a sustainably grown hardwood species.
