Emser Tile has released its 2027 Trends & Opportunities outlook, identifying the design and color directions shaping surface design in the year ahead.
Design in 2027 seeks balance between comfort and simplicity, nature and color, restraint and personality. According to Emser Tile’s 2027 Trends & Opportunities report, the year ahead brings a more layered approach to minimalism, nuanced color and natural influences.
“2027 is about finding balance between character and subtlety,” said Carly Ghodsian, director of curator collections at Emser Tile. “The trends we see on the horizon are a nod to big ideas but with a quieter tone. They create spaces that have depth, texture and personality, and feel livable and comfortable.”
Emser has outlined five dominant design trends: Mellow Minimalism, Modern Glamour, Nostalgic Revival, Nature Nouveau and Seamless Living. Additionally, three color trends are named in the report: Earthy Neutrals, Softened Saturation and Mineral Blues & Greens.
2027 Design Trends
Mellow Minimalism is a lighter interpretation of traditional minimalism, where structure is paired with warmth and ease. Layered neutrals add dimension and large-format surfaces are grounding.
Modern Glamour is expressed through richness of color, pattern and texture. Dimensional detail creates depth and satin finishes offer a soft interpretation of luxury.
Nostalgic Revival celebrates and updates familiar patterns and geometry by introducing cleaner finishes. The result is recognizable but fresh rather than a carbon copy of the past.
Nature Nouveau brings nature into structured environments through curves, botanical themes and fluted forms. Here, tile becomes part of the architecture, creating more immersive spaces.
Seamless Living embraces the continuous flow between indoor and outdoor spaces. Materials are selected to perform across environments while maintaining continuity in tone, scale and texture.
2027 Color Trends
Earthy Neutrals move beyond greige and into richer clay, taupe, caramel and muted tones, with greater variation, texture and layering.
Softened Saturation delivers color into spaces without the intensity of color drenching. Hues maintain a strong presence without overwhelming the space and are expressive yet approachable.
Mineral Blues & Greens draws from landscape and water, with palettes moving through sage, olive, teal and smoky blue. Emser connects the direction to biophilic design and a focus on wellness.
