When I plan my visits to KBIS, if I am not looking for specific vendors; I usually go with a very open mind. I have always loved the mechanics and technology of new introductions like hardware, hinges and construction methods. A great example of this has been the walk-thru pantry trend and learning about Harmon hinges. Seeing, feeling and touching is enormously helpful to be able to design with this knowledge. Technology has also been of great interest to me, especially lighting. I love seeing how cabinetry vendors are introducing very creative ways to incorporate it into their offerings.

I always look forward to experiencing the creative energy of this show and am forever on the hunt for new sustainable or ‘green’ products. It’s a great place to see old friends and make new ones. KBIS never disappoints!

For KBIS 2027, I’m coming in with eyes wide open across the board. I want to see where technology and smart home integration are heading, because that conversation is only getting bigger in the luxury residential space. I’m also watching sustainability more closely than ever. I have a current client who is very intentional about it, and that kind of client mindset is shaping what I’ll be looking for on the show floor.

This year I had the opportunity to attend EuroCucina in Milan for the first time, and that experience has completely shaped how I’m approaching KBIS 2027. I’m genuinely curious to see how the two shows compare. How are American manufacturers responding to what European brands are doing in technology, sustainability and design? Where are we leading and where are we still catching up? Those are the conversations I’m excited to have on the show floor.

For KBIS 2027, I am looking forward to catching up with my NKBA Thirty Under 30 family. It will be great to see all the past award winners as well as welcoming the new class of 30’s. I am also looking forward to KBIS being back in Vegas because the logistics work out so much better with getting to the show floor and being able to see so much more during our busy three days there.

I’m curious to see whether appliance manufacturers are recognizing that innovation isn’t always about adding more technology. Some of the smartest refrigerator features I’ve seen weren’t smart at all. I still remember refrigerators with shelves that could be adjusted effortlessly with a crank or a button to fit whatever came home from the grocery store and models with clever storage solutions that made everyday life easier. Stainless-steel shelving, built-in lazy Susans, removable prep bins and storage systems designed around real human behavior all seem just as relevant today as they did decades ago. I’d love to see whether any manufacturers are exploring those kinds of practical innovations. After all, making life easier never goes out of style.
