The outdoor kitchen and living areas at the Parkland, Fla. residence no longer met the homeowners’ needs. The kitchen was outdated and showed signs of wear and damage, the screened porch lacked functionality and visual appeal and the aging pool area detracted from the overall look of the backyard.
Melissa Mailly, of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.-based Allied Kitchen & Bath undertook the challenge to design and construct a new custom outdoor living and entertainment space. She paid particular attention to selecting materials that would work seamlessly together while standing up to the demands of the South Florida climate.
Danver cabinetry was selected for its sleek appearance, premium quality and weather-resistant construction. Dekton surfaces were chosen for the countertops because of their exceptional durability, low maintenance requirements and ability to withstand outdoor conditions. A stone backsplash was incorporated to add texture and visual interest.
The fireplace feature wall was envisioned as a unique combination of fire and water, creating a dramatic focal point within the outdoor living space. While the original concept centered on integrating both elements seamlessly, the design evolved to incorporate waterjet-cut glass for the water feature.
The custom-cut glass enhances the movement and reflective qualities of the cascading water, creating a sophisticated visual effect that complements the fireplace. The combination of fire, water, stone and glass adds both dynamism and tranquility to the space, resulting in a striking architectural feature that serves as the centerpiece of the outdoor entertainment area.
“The finished outdoor kitchen and living area feel both rich and inviting – luxurious without being overly formal,” said Mailly. “The warm, layered material palette creates a cozy atmosphere that encourages gathering and entertaining, while still delivering the high-end aesthetic the homeowners envisioned.”
