Science and design are aligning, and it’s a game changer for the industry. According to top researchers – many of them medical professionals – design has the power to improve physical and mental health, positioning interior and product designers as facilitators of wellbeing.

To celebrate this fresh, innovative perspective, High Point by Design (HPxD) and Science in Design are cohosting, Designing Wellbeing: Neuroaesthetics, Biophilia and the Healing Power of Beauty at High Point Market. The symposium will take place on Friday, April 25 and Saturday, April 26. The first day will feature dynamic presentations and panels, with the second day dedicated to showroom tours and engagement with brands who have embraced these principles in their ethos and product development.

The event brings an impressive lineup of speakers to High Point:

Keynoting will be William Browning, Managing Partner in Terrapin Bright Green and a leading authority on biophilic design, human productivity and wellbeing.

Award-winning interior designer Caleb Anderson, Principal at Drake/Anderson and Founder of Well-Design, who advocates for a new conversation around luxury design that incorporates health and sustainability, will present “Designing with Purpose.”

Artist/professor Lyn Godley of Lyn Godley Studio, who also serves as the Director of The Jefferson Center of Immersive Arts for Health, will share the science-backed relationship between immersive art and mental health.

Science in Design founder Mike Peterson will provide an insightful overview of neuroaesthetics and its implications for interior designers.

Additional panels will feature designers – Erica McLain of McLain x Design, Marie Cloud of Indigo Pruitt and Blue Lantern Studios’ Kat Blue – discussing how they are incorporating biophilic design and neuroaesthetics into their design practice and how they are marketing their value as “alternative health resources.” Select home furnishings brands – Phillips Collection, Thompson, and Feizy – will also take the stage and reveal how they are embracing the science and design connection and reflecting that in their product development. Eryn Oruncak of Elan Designs will moderate.

A special treat…celebrated artist and entrepreneur Aviva Stanoff will lead attendees to a moment of calm, something that we can all use when gearing up for pace of Market.
