Jenn-Air Adds Google Assistant Integration to Connected Wall Oven

August 4, 2017

Appliance maker Jenn-Air has announced that its connected wall ovens can now be controlled using the voice-activated Google Assistant that powers Google Home and its array of smart home features. The Google Assistant joins Amazon’s Alexa and the brand’s own IOS and Android wall oven apps as options for controlling many essential functions of this high-performance appliance.

By enabling their appliances to interact with the Google Assistant, consumers will be able to remotely operate them in a variety of ways through a series of “Talk to Jenn-Air” voice commands. For example, to preheat the oven, the command would be “Ok Google, talk to Jenn-Air to preheat the oven to 400 degrees.” Beyond preheating the oven, convenient remote operations also include setting the timer, adjusting oven temperature and cooking modes, turning the oven light on/off and setting Sabbath and vacation modes. In addition, users can inquire whether the oven is on and how much cooking time is left.

Jenn-Air Connected Wall Ovens are already largely controllable using the brand’s IOS and Android mobile apps, whether for checking doneness in another room of the home or preheating from across town at the supermarket. They also offer compatibility with Nest Learning Thermostats through the

Works with Nest program and advanced cooking algorithms that take the guesswork out of achieving restaurant-quality results at home. These and other planned connectivity features can be upgraded over time, helping to ensure that Jenn-Air wall ovens purchased today will be “future-proofed” from early obsolescence, according to Jenn-Air marketing director Brian Maynard.

Compatibility with Nest Thermostats allows Jenn-Air Connected Wall Oven owners to synchronize with the thermostat and automatically keep kitchen and home temperatures comfortable even when both oven cavities are in operation. Customers simply use the Nest app to register the wall oven. Nest offers kitchen temperature control, and if it detects that no one is home, the Jenn-Air app will send an alert if the oven has been left on.

In addition to remote preheating, unattended monitoring of cooking progress and other capabilities, the Jenn-Air IOS and Android apps can also access the Jenn-Air Culinary Center. This interactive, image-driven system uses the Jenn-Air Connected Wall Oven’s advanced cooking system, a series of precise algorithms, and chef-tested cooking programs to give cooks the ultimate control in achieving desired results. The Culinary Center provides guidance for more than 30 food options and considers factors such as food category, food type, desired doneness and type of cookware or bakeware used.

Color images illustrating doneness levels are combined with exclusive visuals showing how and where to insert the temperature probe for a variety of dishes. The app also taps the Jenn-Air brand’s “My Creations” function, which allows users to seamlessly combine up to three cooking modes and save the settings for favorite recipes.

Additional connected appliances in the brand’s portfolio include a connected refrigerator, available now, and a dishwasher scheduled for availability this fall. Both also utilize the brand’s IOS and Android mobile app to control various functions and, ultimately, provide service alerts and information that will enhance and shorten service times.
