For this new build project, designer Renée Biery ASID NCIDQ of Montchanin, Del.-based deVignier Design worked with a long-time client to design a fully functional pool house kitchen and bathroom tailored to their frequent entertaining needs. While their main house kitchen leans more traditional, the client wanted try out a different look for this space, and eventually settled on a transitional/industrial aesthetic.

Key to this vibe was the poured concrete counter in the kitchen zone. Centered under a trio of casement windows, it features three integral basins – a very intentional design decision to facilitate self-service entertaining when the homeowners host parties.

“The pair of smaller sinks were designed to be filled with ice to serve raw oysters and shrimp,” said Biery. Not only does this eliminate messy serving dishes, but it also greatly streamlines clean-up at the end of a gathering; “Just open the drain!”

Other industrial accents include floating shelves supported by steel piping, providing open storage for plates and utensils. A stainless steel refrigerator with a glass front panel from True Caliber complements the raw and minimalist design elements in the pool house kitchen. Sturdy cabinet hardware also riffs on the industrial motif.

Biery designed the bathroom as a soothing place of respite after a long day in the hot sun. A custom vanity crafted from reclaimed lumber, paired with a concrete vessel sink and industrial-inspired faucet, echos the kitchen’s aesthetic. The stall shower continues the theme, blending rustic and industrial elements seamlessly. The bathroom is home to a stacked washer/dryer, which allows convenient, on-site laundering of towels – no treks back and forth to the main house necessary
