After decades of displaying its modern kitchens from a 1,400-square-foot space on Newbury Street in the heart of Boston’s luxury fashion thoroughfare, Poggenpohl has relocated to a larger, more visible venue in one of the city’s design districts. Measuring 3,500 square feet, the new showroom is situated in a local landmark building in the Back Bay neighborhood.
The design and build-out of the new space was helmed by Poggenpohl’s Corporate Architecture and construction management firm Corderman & Company, who worked together to preserve the architectural integrity of the building while simultaneously transforming it into a modern studio. One challenge of the complete interior rebuild was dealing with two entrances and the unique bullnose footprint of the space.
As most Poggenpohl showrooms are in design centers, the Boston outlet has the greatest public presence of all its locations. “With windows wrapping all three sides of the showroom, creating a welcoming environment that also highlights the functionality of the kitchen designs created an interesting challenge for our vision,” said Marcia Speer, president of Poggenpohl U.S. Introducing lifestyle features to mimic a real home throughout the space played a key role in this merchandising plan.
