An Artistic Interior
For this home in the Randall Mill neighborhood of Atlanta, designer Ryan Austin Hagood of r.a.d. Interiors delivered a design that was both artistic and pragmatic. The homeowners, who have three young children and two dogs, prioritized ease of maintenance in their design preferences. As such, the r.a.d. team selected materials that are easy to clean, including indoor/outdoor fabrics and wallpapers.
But the focus was by no means strictly on utility and durability. The family possessed an extensive collection of large-scale Africa-inspired photography, which served as a focal point for Hagood’s artistic design direction. Drawing inspiration from the coastal beauty of Durban, the designer’s intent from the outset was to layer textures and incorporate an organic color palette that harmonized with the artwork throughout the entire home. He accomplished this by customizing every finish and paint color in order to fully reflect the client’s unique taste.
In the spacious 24 x 18 kitchen, the expansive fixed casement window above the range provides an abundance of natural light. The wood, metal and stone elements in the room supply both the durability and the design cachet the clients wanted.
Because the couple was happy with the fixture locations in the 10 x 18 primary bathroom, there was no need to move them. Hagood focused on enhancing the design through surface treatments and accessories, adding layers of visual interest through decorative paint, wallpaper, lighting and custom window treatments.
“The client loved a deep raisin color, which inspired us to incorporate a beautifully weathered metal wall covering by Maya Romanoff, giving the bathroom a rich, sophisticated look,” said the designer.
The clients’ personalities are authentically reflected in every space of the home. Hagood notes it was a result of “a collaboration with the owners to create sophisticated yet comfortable spaces for family time, relaxation and entertaining.”
