Just upon Bert & May’s 10-year anniversary, the London-based handmade tile brand is officially crossing the pond with products including cement encaustic patterned tiles like Striped. Available in three widths — wide, midi and skinny — the tiles can be made-to-order in any color from Bert & May’s curated color palette.
A timeless addition to its signature collection of patterned tiles, Striped is a classic design which is impactful when laid in uniform lines but can also placed in irregular formations to create a contemporary twist. Part of Bert & May’s collection of Cement Encaustic tiles, the Striped collection is handmade in Spain with crushed marble using traditional tile-making methods for extra strength and a long-lasting finish, which complements the enduring pattern of the tiles’ striped design. The palette of more than 40 curated colors are crafted from natural pigments for a soft, chalky appearance. They are ideal for indoor and outdoor use, on both floors and walls, as well as other surfaces.
Designed in the UK and hand-poured by fourth-generation artisan tile makers. From traditional and intricate to contemporary and geometric, the inspiration for the Patterned collection spans decades of creative influences. As part of its bespoke service, Bert & May offers to customize all its patterned designs in any colors from its curated palette, helping create truly unique and remarkable spaces.
The story of Bert & May began with founder Lee Thornley’s first restoration project, his countryside hotel, Casa La Siesta in Cadiz, Spain. Sourcing reclaimed materials and rare antique fittings inspired him to sell to a wider audience and eventually reopen a family-run workshop to create artisan encaustic handmade tiles.
Since launching in 2013, Bert & May has become known for its curated palette of natural pigments, materials and fine craftsmanship. Collections range from signature cement encaustic and porcelain to zellige and reclaimed.
