Bankston, the Australian hardware firm known for its thoughtful approach to design collaboration, has introduced a spirited new range of sculptural hardware, The Streaks Collection.
The intrepid collection of timber door levers, pulls, and joinery pieces was crafted in collaboration with Yasmine Ghoniem, director of the AD100 Sydney-based interior design and architectural practice YSG Studio. These design forces came together to create hardware that highlights their mutual passion for bold aesthetics and challenging preconceived shapes and geometries in design.
The Streaks Collection showcases a symphony of beauty, strength and artisanal craftsmanship while exuding an air of playfulness and fun. The ensemble of door levers, pulls and joinery pieces featuring stratified banding in contrasting tones is superbly crafted from sustainably sourced timber and hand-made in Australia, in addition to several pieces crafted in bronze. Together, the range merges the sensorial importance of human touch, and the aesthetic importance of first impressions for a smooth, warm and spirited feel.
Some of the collection’s timber shades appear stained to achieve their vibrant tone; however, the FSC-certified timber is all fully ingrained with its natural coloring. Timber pairings to select from range in tonal intensity from light striped combinations, such as American white ash and Australian blackbutt, to distinctive bands in American walnut and Australian red cedar, plus a colorful couplet of New Zealand purpleheart and African padauk.
Named for its central theme, the collection explores interpretations of the term “streak” – from a literal sense, such as a line or mark of a different substance or color from its background, to emotive associations that can define specific characteristics of someone’s personality, such as a winning streak.
Championing precision craftsmanship and articulate handwork, The Streaks has been divided into three groups, which provide designers with a bespoke approach to altering their hardware in a way that works best for their space.
