Published: March 22, 2019

At the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising (FIDM), Hydro Systems’ Kevin Steinhardt, Ashley Steinhardt and Stacy Yos announced the winner of the 2nd Hydro Systems Design A Tub Competition.

It is an honor to partner with FIDM to create a design competition that gives students a chance to work on a design that will come to life and be sold to the public, while also seeing what the upcoming generation of designers have in store for the future of interior design, said Kevin Steinhardt, vice president at Hydro System.

The Hydro Systems Design A Tub Competition is the premier design contest with a joint partnership between Hydro Systems and students of FIDM’s Interior Design Department. Through the Hydro Systems Design A Tub Competition, each student was granted access to all Hydro System’s products in order to help them create unique designs for their final residential and commercial design project.

Each student utilized their own inspiration boards to develop well-rounded designs based on historic decorative art styles such as: Vintage, Art Deco, Art Nouveau, Zen, Scandinavian, Industrial and more.

The winner Shani Tal, found inspiration for her design with the look and feel of a hammock. According to Shani, The tub is meant to be the focal point in the bathroom. Therefore, the tub would be placed in the center of the space for it to stand out. The design of the tub would be comfortable for two main reasons. First being that it is low to the ground, meaning, that it is easy to step into. The second reason are the curves. The curved angles make it comfortable for the bather to lay back and relax. Adding legs to the tub not only adds a unique design element, and it allows the tub to remain in its original shape.

Upon winning the competition Shani will work with Hydro Systems to manufacture her design and see it come to reality.

The winning design will be available for purchase in late 2019.
