The 48th Decorex luxury interior design trade show recently welcomed designers, exhibitors and presenters to the iconic Olympia, London event center for a four-day run, packed full of bespoke exhibitors (many with representation in the US), presentations and networking opportunities. Additionally, a delightful, juried launch pad for emerging artisans to display their ingenuity and artistry, Making Spaces, returned to Decorex for the second year in a row.
The overall theme of the show was sustainable luxury, incorporating environmentally responsible materials, fabrication techniques and installation applications, allowing designers and specifiers to create homes focused on client health and wellness.
The predominant design trend was maximalism with featured textiles, furnishings, wall coverings in saturated matte colors such as reds, blues, yellows and browns and toned-down blacks, textured patterns and layered accessories that facilitate a curated, personal style. Reeded cabinetry and wall paneling, in a variety of styles, continues to trend, providing a tailored, textural look. Absent were sharp edges, replaced by more rounded, organic shapes as seen in the Kudos booth, where every edge had been softened.
Outdoor living was well represented with furnishings and cooking equipment were prominent at the show with ultra comfortable furnishing by Portugal-based IBTW and The Modern Furniture Company’s Cubic Outdoor Living line with its beautifully constructed outdoor bar and season extending Heat Dome Terra heat lamp provide homeowners with ample reason to spend time outside.
In the lighting and hardware sectors, the Sketch line of lighting and hardware by Armac Martin with its freeform look and the unique but functional door hardware and handrail by Serip provide delightful takes on everyday items. Corston debuted lighting and hardware with a simply elegant look as illustrated by their Richmond articulating lamp. Turnstyle Designs’ Plinth T Bar and Lever handle beautifully mimic tree bark adding to designs with an organic theme. Rothchild-Bickers Striped Pop Pendant in Denim is whimsical and perfect for a child’s nursery. Author Interiors’ Iluka customizable resin pendant can play well in a living room, kitchen, dining, foyer or any corner where shadows should be chased away.
All the products featured here can be ordered for installations in the United States.
