This fall, Salone del Mobile.Milano will kick off this year’s international tour in Jakarta, Indonesia, bringing the iconic SaloneSatellite Permanent Collection Exhibition (1998–2026) to Southeast Asia for the first time.
Hosted during Indonesia Design Week (Sept. 18 – Oct. 18, 2026), this will mark the third stop for the historic exhibition curated by SaloneSatellite founder Marva Griffin Wilshire and designed by architects Ricardo Bello Dias and Hariadna Pinate. The exhibition will display 55 iconic designs out of 415 in the permanent archive — tracing the transition of under-35 talent from prototype to global commercial success. It will include works such as Sebastian Wrong’s Spun lamp for Flos and the Chab tray-table by Nendo/Oki Sato for DePadova, as well as the Plank Chair by Indonesian Studio Hendro Hadinata.
Not just Milan, not just products, not just April
This event will mark the first stop of Salone’s new international trajectory of cultural diplomacy and its aim to foster global connections starting off with Southeast Asia’s booming architectural community. The exhibition of the Permanent Collection is also being supported by the Italian Cultural Institute in Jakarta.
Since 1998, SaloneSatellite, founded and curated by Marva Griffin Wilshire, is an event promoted by Salone del Mobile.Milano to help and assist young designers from all over the world in starting their career. Thanks to its winning formula – the union between the world of creativity and the international furniture industry – it remains the first and unique showcase of young creativity.
As evidence of this, there is a continuous yearly growth of requests from international designers under 35 years old, who consider SaloneSatellite a great opportunity to express their creativity in Milan during Salone del Mobile.Milano. This consolidated formula is a showcase for young designers starting their career, but also for international design schools and universities to bring along a selection of their graduating students. It is an opportunity for mutual creative confrontation among schools and the international audience of the event.
From 1998 to 2026, SaloneSatellite’s participating young designers numbered more than 16,000 from 60 countries from around the world. Today, SaloneSatellite has a very long list of these participants that, starting their career in these years, are known worldwide with design pieces in several catalogs of international companies and in several museums’ collections, as well as being featured in numerous exhibitions and magazines.
A Permanent Collection has been created, containing a selection of a large number of products produced and marketed by Italian and foreign companies over the years since the first edition of SaloneSatellite. This Collection has been housed since November 2018 at Artwood Academy in Lentate sul Seveso, near Milano, the professional institute promoted by FederlegnoArredo for the training of professionals in the industrial and artisanal woodworking sector. It is an ideal place for students to experience firsthand the power of good ideas to shape the present and build the future.
The Permanent Collection’s exhibitions abroad aim to show different perspectives on the history of SaloneSatellite. The first one was held at the Arts Pavilion in West Hong Kong in November 2024, the second one at the Italian Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka in September 2025, and the exhibition now arrives at the Townhall of the Indonesia Design District in Jakarta.
The selection created for Indonesia Design Week offers a 360-degree tour of the vast world of creativity, showcasing the typologies, processes, materials and trends at the heart of the numerous products born in SaloneSatellite, which have written an important chapter in contemporary design. It is a way to retrace 27 years of an intertwined journey that continues to grow, edition after edition, with the proposals of new generations and evolving design trends. The selection of 55 pieces excludes many of the treasures represented by each of the more than 400 pieces in the Permanent Collection, but at the same time remains faithful to SaloneSatellite’s commitment to presenting them on a rotating basis, alongside the most celebrated icons.
