TOTO Partners With EcoScorecard

Published: December 6, 2010

TOTO is partnering with ecoScorecard to help consumers acquire the environmental documentation needed to qualify for green building rating systems such as LEED, GGHC Labs 21, CHPS, and the NAHB Green Home Building Guidelines as well as other third-party product certification systems.

These green building rating systems provide third-party verification that a building is designed and built using strategies, which improve performance including water efficiency, energy savings and CO2 emissions reduction. “TOTO recognized that it took our customers countless hours to search, evaluate and document our high-efficiency plumbing products’ environmental characteristics and develop the documentation needed for them to qualify under the major green building rating systems,” said Lenora Campos, Ph.D., TOTO spokesperson. “We wanted to simplify this process for them, and ecoScorecard enabled us to put this information at their fingertips—online, up-to-date and available 24/7/365.”

A TOTO product’s ecoScorecard includes information such as pre- and post-consumer recycled content, life cycle analysis status, product and packaging recyclability, and freedom from hazardous metals. The new partnership allows architects and designers to immediately print the required product documentation for green building projects.

“TOTO is well known for its commitment to environmental sustainability,” said Martin Flaherty, president of ecoScorecard. “By simplifying the rating systems documentation process and providing product environmental metrics, the ecoScorecard tool enables TOTO and product specifiers to partner to further their sustainability goals.”
