Lutron Electronics, a leader in lighting control and automated shading solutions, has opened a brand new studio in the city of Los Angeles at 333 S. Grand Ave., expanding its influential reach to the West Coast. The studio will provide a space for guests to learn about – and experience – Lutron’s industry-leading product portfolio of lighting, shades and controls. The space is open to architects, designers, lighting designers, home builders, specifiers and other industry professionals, while also serving as a resource for homeowners upon appointment.

Situated in the heart of downtown Los Angeles, the new 3,200-sq.-ft. Lutron Design Studio draws inspiration from the local art scene. The space itself has a new aesthetic for a Lutron showroom, designed by in-house interiors and lighting team led by Cecilia Ramos, Rob Laterza and Christine Lintner, alongside architects of record ASD | SKY. Inspired by the art galleries of Los Angeles, Lutron’s new studio puts light on display. The space is flooded with natural light, both from the peripheral windows and Ketra light within, and ripple fold curtains draped around the periphery of the space create a drama and playfulness that illustrates the power of being able to control natural light as it pertains to comfort, sustainability and the preservation of art. Inside, white furnishings function as a backdrop to bright, vivid art pieces, and the bold colors bounce off of the white hues throughout the day, highlighting the way material reflects light and color.

“The city of Los Angeles provides so much inspiration – there is an exceptional quality to the light here, from the radiant daylight to the saturated sunsets of evening – combined with a rich and vibrant culture that spans history, entertainment, music, and a remarkable arts scene,” said Rob Laterza, global experience center manager at Lutron. “It was important for our design team to create a space that will not only show off the transformative qualities of our lighting and shading solutions, but also inspire and pay homage to the community that surrounds us. We’ve chosen to do that by curating a space where art can be showcased to its fullest potential – while also providing a canvas to invite our clients to create their own vision with the help of Lutron’s offerings.”

With the local arts scene at the core of the Studio’s design philosophy, the use of products in the space is intended to emulate the techniques seen in the theater, including dramatic ripple fold drapery and use of both natural and artificial lighting that allows the Lutron’s innovative light solutions to take center stage. The Studio will include artwork commissioned by Moises Ramirez, who drew inspiration from Los Angeles’ iconic art history. His pieces are the main source of color throughout the space with the hues illuminated and brought to life by signature Lutron lighting features.

Many of Lutron’s most notable products will be on display, including the Palladiom Wire-Free Shading System, the Ketra Lightbar Slim luminaire and the Athena Wireless Node controller system. The Design Studio also features luxury lighting fixtures from Finelite to demonstrate the incredible adaptability and compatibility of Lutron’s portfolio, and the way Lutron’s offerings can be easily integrated into a broad spectrum of design styles. This new showroom is Lutron’s 10th, building on its lineup of global showrooms also found in New York City, London and Toronto.
