Lutron Electronics Co. Inc., a manufacturer of lighting control, automated shading solutions and intelligent lighting fixtures, has acquired Tanury Industries, a surface finishing and metal coatings company. Tanury has been one of Lutron’s leading suppliers of metal faceplates for more than 25 years.
“The strategic acquisition of Tanury enables Lutron to bring exceptional plating and coating capabilities in-house, building on Tanury’s decades of manufacturing excellence and technical expertise,” said Walter Peake, executive vice-president at Lutron. “These enhanced capabilities will drive greater marketplace differentiation and innovation, expand Lutron’s portfolio of premium metal finishes and support the timely delivery of superior metal-finished products to customers worldwide.”
Founded in 1946, Tanury’s metal work can be seen on high-end motorcycle and automotive parts, private and commercial aviation, marine hardware, high-end gifts, jewelry and more. Company operations will remain in Lincoln, R.I., and Lutron will continue to invest in and grow capabilities for all existing Tanury customers.
“The synergies between our two companies played a significant role in our decision to work with Lutron,” said Thomas A. Tanury, Tanury chairman and son of Tanury founder Fredrick M. Tanury. “Lutron’s principles-based culture, future expansion plans and genuine care for employees will allow for continued growth and success.”
As two family-owned businesses, Lutron and Tanury share core values that make this acquisition a strong strategic and cultural fit. Tanury’s customer-focused approach, rigorous quality control processes and long-standing investment in research and development make it a natural addition to the Lutron brand.
“For 80 years, Tanury has worked in metal finishing, transforming unfinished materials into some of the most beautiful, durable, and recognizable products in the world,” said Michael Akkaoui, Tanury president and CEO. “We are thrilled to become part of the Lutron family after a 25+-year partnership which helped them expand their metal finishes footprint in the luxury market.”
