LG Electronics has become the first major appliance manufacturer to have its refrigerators certified by CSA Group to meet the new Sustainability Standard for Household Refrigeration Appliances.
Nine LG refrigerators, from French door models to the LG ThinQ “smart” models, have achieved the levels required to meet the environmental standard, according to CSA Group. The 2012 sustainability standard is based on a lifecycle approach for identifying the environmental impacts of refrigerator products in five key areas: materials, manufacturing and operations, energy consumption during use, product performance and end of life.
“Environmental sustainability has become as important to our customers as it has been to our company for a long time,” said Chris Jung, president of home appliances, LG Electronics USA, Inc. “Together with CSA Group, LG is leading the way in addressing various aspects of the product’s lifecycle.”
“CSA Group is committed to developing standards for sustainability that help consumer appliance and electronic products manufacturers support their environmental claims,” said Ash Sahi, president and CEO, CSA Group. “As the first manufacturer with not one, but nine new refrigeration products certified to this new standard by CSA, LG is demonstrating to consumers that these products meet the requirements of the standard throughout their lifecycle and go well beyond simply meeting the traditional energy performance benchmarks.”
CSA Group worked closely with the Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers (AHAM) and other stakeholders to develop the sustainability standard, which was announced in Washington, D.C., in June 2012.
The following LG refrigerators have been certified by CSA Group to meet the new refrigeration sustainability standard: LFX31925ST (pictured), LFX31925SB, LFX31925SW, LFX31915ST, LFX31915SB, LFX31915S, LFX31995ST, LFX31945ST and LFX31935ST.
