Laufen Offers Course on Aging and Universal Design

Published: November 24, 2011

Laufen has developed a course to help architects, designers, builders and remodelers understand more about “Aging With Grace: Universal Design Principles for Bathrooms.”

The course, approved for learning credits with the American Institute of Architects (AIA), the National Kitchen & Bath Association (NKBA) and the National Association of the Remodeling Industry (NARI) was developed in collaboration with Hanley Wood University’s online learning division and is also offered through Laufen via face-to-face learning opportunities.

“The fastest-growing demographic is the homeowner aged 65 and over,” said Mike Teresso, general manager of Laufen North America. “Estimated at over 45 million people, it’s incumbent upon us as manufacturers to pay attention to the needs of this demographic and to make sure that those tasked with building and designing for their long-term comfort have as much information as possible.”

Those interested in the course can log on to the Hanley Wood University website at their convenience and take the course, which runs 90 minutes. At the conclusion of the course, participants are asked to respond to a series of questions to earn one Learning Unit (LU) under the Health, Safety and Welfare (HSW) sub-section. Laufen will also offer the course in showrooms across the country and may turn the course into a webinar.

The course covers the history of Universal Design, the seven principles of Universal Design and how to implement these principles to design and build a bathroom as beautiful as it is safe and functional.
