KBB was on site last night for the launch of Kohler Health, a new business unit of KOHLER, and its inaugural product, Dekoda. David Kohler spoke about the three-year genesis of the project, and introduced Kash Kapadia, who brings a background in technology, design and healthcare to his role as CEO of Kohler Health.
The Dekoda demonstration was literally hands on, starting with the remote control’s fingerprint-recognition feature. This identifies the individual user and activates their personal health profile on their smartphone. The unit, which clamps discreetly onto the rim of standard toilets, uses optical sensors and algorithms to analyze a person’s hydration, gut health and can detect blood in the toilet bowl with precision. Armed with this information, users can modify their habits to achieve better health outcomes.
Befitting the refined appearance of the product – a shout-out to Rafael Rexach, head of design for Kohler Health – the event was held at the Whitney Museum of American Art.
