InSinkErator recently showed attendees at the Milwaukee “Rock the Green” festival how to put food scraps to good use. The company enabled the more than 7,000 festival-goers to “give back” by sending approximately 1,200 pounds of food scraps to the local wastewater treatment plant to be converted to renewable energy and fertilizer.
In support of Rock the Green’s zero-waste goal, attendees were encouraged to eliminate unnecessary landfill waste and help create renewable energy by tossing leftover food scraps into special bins, which were then taken to disposal stations specially designed by InSinkErator. The food scraps were converted into slurry and housed in 300-gallon holding tanks. The Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District will use the resulting slurry to create fertilizer for the treatment of the concert venue, Veterans Park.
“Rock the Green offered a unique opportunity for InSinkErator to not only tell consumers about the environmental benefits of food waste disposers, but show them,” said Dave MacNair, VP of Marketing. “Seeing this practice succeed on such a large scale sends a message about these appliances—they are not only a convenience, they can serve as an environmental alternative to the trash can.”
