Minor water leaks account for more than one trillion gallons of water wasted each year in the U.S., which is equal to the annual water use of more than 11 million homes, according to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). As EPA’s 2013 WaterSense Manufacturer Partner of the Year, Delta Faucet is offering tips to consumers about leak detection and prevention in the bath.

• A showerhead leaking at 10 drips per minute wastes more than 500 gallons of water per year, the same amount of water it takes to wash 60 loads of dishes in the dishwasher. Shower better by replacing an old showerhead with a WaterSense-labeled model and save water, energy and money.
• Replacing older, inefficient toilets with new WaterSense-labeled models could save up to 13,000 gallons of water per year and nearly $2,400 in water and wastewater bills over the lifetime of the toilets.
• Leaky faucets are another source of extreme water waste in the home. Most leaks can be fixed by checking faucet washers and gaskets for wear and replacing them if necessary.
