Davis & Warshow and Dornbracht Get Artsy

Published: August 7, 2012

Davis & Warshow, a kitchen and bath distributor, and Dornbracht, have co-sponsored Wendy, a bright blue, spiky, towering star in Long Island City’s Museum of Modern Art PS1’s courtyard.

Part of the museum’s Young Architects Program, and designed by HWKN, the structure, now open through September 8, 2012, is sheathed in a special titania nanofilm-coated fabric that neutralizes airborne pollutants. In less than three months, Wendy will clean the air to an equivalent of removing 260 cars from the city’s congested streets.

Davis & Warshow furnished plumbing components and technology necessary for the structure’s water features, which include cannons, mists and falling rain. “For over five years now, Davis & Warshow has thrown its full support behind plans for a smarter, more sustainable New York City,” said David Finkel, president and COO of Davis & Warshow. “HWKN’s exploration of eco-friendly building solutions and techniques is extraordinary, and we are pleased to have this association with them.”

“Wendy is more than an architectural solution,” said Ingolf Matthée, Dornbracht Americas president and CEO. “It’s a fresh look at urban design and development, and its effects are sure to be long-lasting. Supporting projects that move architecture forward is one of Dornbracht’s greatest goals, and the Young Architects Program is beautifully aligned with our efforts.”
