Crossville Hits the Catwalk

Published: December 5, 2011

Who knew that tile is so wearable? Design Extra, a St. Louis-based interior design firm, recently created a designer dress constructed from Crossville mosaics and mesh tile backing. The dress was unveiled for UnRavel, a fashion event hosted by the International Interior Design Association Mid-America Chapter’s St. Louis City Center.

UnRavel invited area designers to invent, and model, wearable fashion using only materials typically reserved for interior design. The styles will be displayed in an exhibit in downtown St. Louis for the public to view.

With the help of ISC Surface‘s Julie Zobel, Design Extra selected a bright color palette from Crossville’s Glass Blox collection for the bodice and layered skirt of the one-of-a-kind, flapper-inspired dress. The team employed the mosaic tile mesh backing to serve as connective material and make-shift crinoline to add shape and ‘fluff’ to the style, giving a feminine and soft touch to the overall look.
