Christopher Grubb To Create Urban “Playhouse”

Published: July 17, 2013

The Residences at W Hollywood, the residential component of the W Hollywood hotel in Los Angeles, has selected Christopher Grubb, Beverly Hills designer and president and founder of Arch-Interiors Design Group, to create his interpretation of an urban “playhouse.”

“We selected Christopher Grubb to bring that ‘wow’ factor into penthouse 12G,” said Ron Barnes, sales and marketing director at The Residences at W Hollywood. “As a top Los Angeles designer and style maker, Christopher is recognized internationally for his distinctive luxury design perspective. His ‘playhouse’ concept with creative features, including a putting green, is one of my favorites at The Residences at W Hollywood. It transforms space meant for a bedroom into a room for recreation, and it delights and inspires our discerning clientele with lively, unexpected touches.”

“I wanted to create something extraordinary and unexpected that would speak to those seeking a youthful, cool, urban experience,” said Grubb, noting the suite’s ideal occupant is someone who desires a grown-up version of a child’s playhouse. “While another resident might place emphasis on a lavish bedroom, the owner of penthouse 12G is someone who lives for entertainment. They possess both the desire and the means to be playful and bold.”

The open-plan kitchen features espresso-finished, European-style cabinets. For contrast, Grubb used three-dimensional aluminum tile on the backsplash and bar front. Clear acrylic stools around the bar allow for an unobstructed view of the textured tile. Suspended above the bar, three glass pendants incorporating stripes of orange, blue, green and yellow lend an artful touch. The compact kitchen includes appliances made for entertaining, such as a wine refrigerator and dishwasher drawers.

The penthouse’s powder room features a vanity from The C.G. Collection by Christopher Grubb. Floating countertops of thick granite and patterned, slightly sparkling wall coverings add drama. In the master bath, a fur-like wall adds texture, while pop art pays homage to California living.
