CHIP IT! Turns Images into Paint Palettes

Published: April 23, 2012

CHIP IT!, a web-based interactive tool, allows users to select any online image and instantly identify the Sherwin-Williams paint colors that correspond to the colors contained within the picture. Designers, painting and building professionals, as well as their clients, can now use the colors that inspire them while surfing the Internet and turn them into paint palettes for any project.

To get started, users create a profile and then add the “CHIP IT!” bookmarklet to their Internet browser toolbar. This bookmarklet allows users to identify up to 10 Sherwin-Williams paint colors represented in online photos by scrolling over the image. From there, users can add the photo and corresponding color palette to their CHIP IT! profile, share the creation socially or print it out.

“We know that finding the right color is often one of the biggest challenges when tackling the painting aspect of a project,” said Jackie Jordan, director of color marketing for Sherwin-Williams. “Our customers seek inspiration from a wide range of places. We want to help them take that inspiration and turn it into a reality. CHIP IT! delivers perfectly.”
