Buy an appliance and help preserve a rainforest with a new partnership between Fisher & Paykel Appliances and the Orange County, CA based environmental group Cuipo.
As part of the partnership, when consumers buy any Fisher & Paykel dishwasher, refrigerator or washing machine in the U.S. or Canada, they are able to protect 20 square meters of rainforest and do their part in the ongoing fight against deforestation.
Cuipo is a social enterprise working to protect and preserve the world’s endangered rainforest. Its preservation efforts focus on the belief that the most effective way to stop deforestation is to buy the land one meter at a time and preserve it. After Cuipo purchases large parcels of rainforest land, it transfers it to a non-profit foundation for permanent preservation.
“Our partnership with Cuipo goes far beyond our dedication and long-time commitment to create energy efficient appliances,” said Scott Davies, marketing manager at Fisher & Paykel. “We have expanded on our mission to be an environmentally friendly company and taken it one step further by joining the effort against losing the precious and invaluable resource of the rainforest.”
After purchasing a Fisher & Paykel appliance, consumers can go to www.fisherpaykel.com/cuipo for information on how to redeem a rainforest purchase. Once the simple process is completed, users can see the saved meters of the rainforest on an interactive satellite map of the Cuipo reserve. The Cuipo Rainforest Preserve is located in Chepo, Panama, near the Darien National Preserve. The rainforest is rapidly disappearing as agriculture, logging, development, mining and tourism infringe on these areas. So far Cuipo has acquired 3,330 acres of rainforest to put aside for preservation.
“We are excited to partner with a company that not only produces top-quality appliances, but also shares our commitment to the environment,” said Cuipo co-founder John Oswald. “Through our partnership, consumers are given opportunity to reduce their energy and water consumption, while saving tropical rainforest, every time they purchase a Fisher & Paykel appliance.”
