Merging the natural and artistic worlds, Ann Sacks and glass artist Tony Davlin have created the Market tile series composed of tissue-thin slices of real fruits and vegetables preserved between layers of glass. This collection offers vivid, colorful tiles that are created using the same ancient Egyptian techniques that produced the earliest forms of the paper thousands of years ago. Thin slices of a fruit or vegetable are cut with a special mandolin, pressed, dried and then arranged over a white backing to give the tile a luminous opacity. The Market collection consists of tiles composed of the following: tomato, pear, carrot, gourd, citrus and cucumber.
