BSH Home Appliances Corp. has announced plans to phase out sales of its 27-in. front load laundry products by the end of the year. While the 27-in. washers and dryers will cease to be sold by the end of 2011, the phase-out will not impact the service commitment for these appliances.
Due to the discontinuation, the company will close down one of three production lines located in New Bern, NC, which will impact approximately 100 people out of the 730 employed at the facility. Employees working on the production of the 27-in. laundry products are anticipated to work until spring.
The company will turn its focus and resources to dishwashers and built-in cooking appliances in the North American market. In the next two years, BSH plans to invest $50 million in the dishwasher business and accelerate sales of its 24-in. laundry product line.
