Mutina Ceramiche Wins Wallpaper Design Award

Published: March 4, 2011

Mutina Ceramiche’s new Phenomenon collection, designed by Tokujin Yoshioka, recently received a 2011 Wallpaper Design Award, which recognizes creativity and innovation in the world of fashion, architecture and design.

“It is a great honor to receive this highly prestigious award together with Tokujin Yoshioka, the poet of design,” said Massimo Orsini, chairman of Mutina Ceramiche. “This important international award, which joins the numerous prizes won by the Déchirer collection designed by Patricia Urquiola, encourages us to continue down the road we have embarked on, producing collections aimed at the world of design, in collaboration with some of the most authoritative names in the field.”

Phenomenon is a collection that reflects several years of research by Tokujin Yoshioka. The ceramic project was intended to offer an original take on textures derived from nature, to evoke the emotions they awaken rather than to imitate their appearance. The textured ceramic material recalls patterns found outdoors, such as the cells of beehives, snow crystals, ice formations and plant cells.

The Wallpaper Design Award winners are chosen by a jury made up of six individuals from the world of architecture, art, design, cinema and music, including Pharrell Williams, Michael Nyman, Marc Quinn, Natalie Massenet, Raf Simons and Mario Bellini.
