PBS’ This Old House recently renovated the second oldest house in the program’s 35-year history with help in the kitchen from Mullet Cabinet. Called the “Bedford Project,” work on the almost 300-year-old house included restoration and a few practical additions, including a new kitchen and butler’s pantry featuring Mullet Cabinets’ Levant kitchen furniture.
The home, located in a suburb of Boston, belonged to Revolutionary War patriot Nathaniel Page and presented the unique challenges of fitting a modern kitchen into the blueprint of a 18th century farmhouse. One solution includes custom-designed Levant kitchen furniture with specialized color finishes designed to match the homeowners’ taste in décor and complement the style and era of the historic farmhouse. Additionally, Levant Kitchen Furniture delivered the cabinets in four weeks, allowing the homeowners and show producers to meet a tight construction and filming schedule.
“Levant made sense because I wanted to integrate the look of fine furniture-quality cabinetry that would offer the flexibility to work within the open floor plan that included posts and beams,” said kitchen designer Kathy Marshall. “And Levant delivered the look the homeowners had hoped for, well within the budget they had set aside. But what really made the company stand apart from the competition is that they were able to deliver a custom product under what would typically be regarded an unrealistic timeframe; when the deadline for the entire project was cut back from 9 months to 6 months.”
For the Bedford Project, Marshall specified custom-designed inset perimeter cabinetry in a Blue Heron finish and an island in Coastal Fog to complete the historic renovation-quality kitchen.
