Süddekor LLC has announced ColorDekor, a new, proprietary digital color-match system designed to bring speed, accuracy, and vibrant colors and textures to laminate.
The ColorDekor system uses Süddekor’s own papers to create a high-quality sample for any laminate flooring, furniture piece, or countertop, using almost anything as a design guide. A heavy sample, such as quartz or granite, can be duplicated with little or no variation in color, resulting in a lightweight sample that customers can see and feel.
“This process allows us to show our customers a sample that’s real—an accurate representation of the product they will order,” said Marcel Albert, director of design for Süddekor LLC. “We don’t need to use specially
designed cylinders to create a sample, as in the past, so the process takes a fraction of the time to complete compared to before this technology was perfected.”
The ColorDekor’s digital color-match system allows for printing on a 2-ft.-wide digital printer, but uses the same inks and paper as those used in the gravure process. This eliminates color metamerism—the phenomenon in which colors look different under differing circumstances—between the digital and final gravure prints.
The process also gives Süddekor engineers the ability to create a laminated sample in just 10 to 15 minutes rather than several hours, including high-pressure laminate (HPL) or thermally fused melamine(TFM) samples.
“The key benefit of combining printing, treating and impregnation under one roof is faster development times for product enhancements,” said Joe Hoelzer, Süddekor’s president and CEO. “At the same time, it provides faster times for problem resolution. Customers can now do color work in a fraction of the time and have their prints laminated.”
