New Board Member of IFI Announced

Published: May 20, 2014

The American Society of Interior Designers has announced that Gary Wheeler, FASID, FIIDA, former president of ASID, has been elected to the board of the International Federation of Interior Architects/Designers (IFI).

Founded in Denmark in 1963, IFI is the international federating body for interior architecture/design organizations and acts as a global forum for the development and exchange of education, research and practice. IFI is intended to connect the international design community, promote global social responsibility and work to raise the status of the profession worldwide.

As a member of the board, Wheeler will be instrumental in implementing a new structure for IFI that includes building regional boards around the globe. The new structure will generate greater regional involvement of member organizations and heighten visibility of the profession. The proposed four-region model may include an Americas region covering North, Central and South America.

“An IFI Americas Region means that, for the first time, interior architecture/design bodies in Canada, the U.S., Mexico and countries in Central and South America will collaborate across borders around events, ethics, professional standards and more,” said Wheeler.
