Oak Bois Flotte is a French oak wide plank engineered floor from Vogue Parquet, made for kitchens where the floor has to run unbroken from the range into the living space.
It comes in two builds. The 8 ¾ -in. plank is ⅝-in. thick on a birch plywood core with a 5-mm wear layer, random lengths to 78 inches. The 7 ¼ -in. plank is 9/16 inches on a multi-ply core with a 4-mm wear layer, same random lengths. Both are available in herringbone and chevron in the same oak and the same finish, so a designer can change the pattern in a breakfast area or a butler’s pantry without changing the material.
The wear layer is what matters in a kitchen. At 4 mm to 5 mm, the surface can be sanded back three or four times, so a floor that takes a dropped pan or a dishwasher leak is repaired rather than replaced.
