John Boos & Co. Rustic Edge Series

John Boos & Co. has expanded the Rustic Edge Series with a new design that blends time-honored woodworking traditions with sustainable design, honoring its 139-year history. The expanded collection responds to the growing demand for non-toxic culinary essentials from home cooks and professional chefs seeking a plastic-free kitchen.

Inspired by the original Boos Blocks, made for blacksmiths in the late 19th century by Conrad Boos and his son John Boos, the Rustic Edge Series is part of the 1887 Collection, a nod to the year Conrad founded the company in Effingham, Ill., where it is still based today.

While the original Rustic Edge Series includes wooden cutting boards made from cherry, walnut and maple, all from a single piece of wood, the new organic cutting board is created from two pieces of solid walnut joined by a single artisanal seam and a natural live edge, the bark-side contour of the tree. Celebrating the wood’s intentional beauty, the new Rustic Edge Boos Block highlights the unique wood grains that only time and nature can create.

Made in the U.S. by craftsmen, no two boards are exactly alike, guaranteeing that each food-safe cutting board is a one-of-a-kind, handcrafted heirloom and a functional piece of art that can serve as the anchor piece of a biophilic kitchen. As home kitchens undergo a “nature-first” revolution, the Rustic Edge collection also has a smaller carbon footprint and less material waste thanks to the live-edge design.

The new walnut Rustic Edge Boos Block is available in three versatile sizes. Engineered for heavy-duty food prep, the versatile 1 ¾-in. thick cutting board provides a stable cutting surface and a reversible side that can be reserved as a showpiece for serving or display.
