Italian multigenerational design studio Gaspare Asaro has introduced the Orchid Collection, drawing inspiration from the structure and allure of the flower. After seeing an abundance of orchids during a visit to Thailand, Vittorio Asaro designed the collection with alabaster shades to have a gem-like faceted profile, while the body is organic and branching, with cut-outs throughout the frame. The collection is offered in three ceiling models and one wall light.
Orchid is being released in conjunction with the studio’s innovative new hand-painted verde pietra finish, inspired by Japanese architecture. The weaving of Italian design with Asian influences creates a piece that is gentle and refined.
The verde pietra finish is directly inspired by the cultural treasure of Japan’s Nikkō Tōshogū Shrine where a bronze torii gate c.1600, weathered for hundreds of years to a beautiful verdigris, welcomes visitors into the complex. To achieve the same patina aesthetic, bronze or copper is typically oxidized using harmful chemicals. Gaspare Asaro developed the innovative verde pietra finish to mimic the look without any adverse effects. The finish is created through a complex hand-layering process with different pigments to achieve a natural, weathered appearance.
