bulthaup Challenges Conventional Views of the Kitchen in Milan
April 29, 2013
bulthaup recently hosted a conceptual kitchen installation at its Via Durini showroom in Milan, Italy, during Salone del Mobile 2013. Visitors to the showroom experienced a kitchen that was designed to challenge conventional views of interior space.
The installation was assembled from bulthaup’s b3 kitchen elements of varying heights, colors and materials and arranged on steps and platforms made from concrete, stone, hand-painted lava tiles and wood floorboards. As visitors moved around the space, they experienced various juxtapositions and new points of view.
The exhibition included a selection of accessories and utensils arranged according to the function they serve: preparation, cooking, presentation, storage and washing. The minds behind the installation, artist and photographer Florian Böhm and art director Annahita Kamali, gathered these items from all over the world. They also created a library of 200 cookbooks from around the globe that visitors were invited to peruse.
The Via Durini installation’s experimentation with materials, surface finishes, colors and a variety of forms was designed to demonstrate how a kitchen’s aura evolves and how users can interact with a space.
